Summer Greetings

The harvest season is here. With the hottest days of summer come our sweetest and juiciest fruits. Wild cherries have been harvested and juiced and wild blueberries have been picked and dried for the fall and winter. We are now harvesting the rest of the elderberries to make into syrup for the winter to help the immune system. Sumac, rich in citric acid and malic acid is also being harvested to dry and use for making Sumac-Ade.

Wild Food Harvest and Feast

10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

Wild Woods Farm, VA Beach, VA, parking at 4152 Blackwater Road (no mailbox – look for the orange goose)

Foragers at Wild Wood Farms

Join us on the farm as we spend the morning identifying and harvesting wild beans, ground cherries, purslane, and lambs-quarters. The real treat comes with the wild fruits. Pawpaws, persimmons, and muscadine grapes are starting to make an appearance and will hopefully be ready. We will take what we harvest to the Center where we will process and prepare the wild plants for food, followed by a wild food feast.

Cost: $45/each

Registration: Email wildfood@cox.net to register and for more information.
